How to Research a Solana Token Before You Buy
Research any Solana token - check mint/freeze authorities, Token-2022 extensions, holder concentration. Know what you're buying before you buy.
What token authorities mean
Every SPL token mint has configurable authorities. Mint Authority can create new tokens from nothing—if active, total supply isn't fixed. Freeze Authority can freeze individual token accounts, preventing transfers. Update Authority can change the token's name, symbol, and metadata.
When the analyzer shows 'null' or 'disabled' for these authorities, no one can exercise those powers. When it shows an address, that address has control. Legitimate projects either disable these after initial distribution or transfer them to multisig or governance contracts.
Token-2022 extensions and their implications
Transfer Fees let the token mint take a percentage of every transfer. Confidential Transfers encrypt transaction amounts. Permanent Delegate gives an address authority over all tokens of that mint, regardless of holder. Non-Transferable tokens can't be moved once received.
Not every extension is a red flag—context matters—but you should know what you're dealing with. The analyzer identifies which extensions a token uses and explains the implications.
Holder concentration analysis
High concentration (top 10 wallets hold 80%+) means price is easily manipulated. Moderate concentration (top 10 hold 30-50%) is typical for younger projects. Wide distribution (top 10 hold less than 20%) is harder to manipulate and generally healthier for price stability.
The analyzer shows top holder distribution, flags concentrated positions, and identifies likely treasury or team wallets based on holding patterns.
Research workflow before buying
Check authorities: are mint/freeze disabled or controlled by transparent governance? Review extensions: any Token-2022 features you don't understand or want? Analyze holders: red flags if top wallets control too much. Verify liquidity: can you actually sell at reasonable prices?
This doesn't guarantee a token is a good investment. But it filters out obvious scams and helps you understand what you're actually buying. The analyzer reads on-chain data—it can't evaluate business fundamentals or team legitimacy.
